Why Choose a Dentist Anesthesiologist vs. a Dental Anesthesiologist?
Understanding the difference between a dentist anesthesiologist (like Dr. Ali) and a dental anesthesiologist, and why having both disciplines in one provider offers unique advantages.
What should I do to prepare for a sedation appointment?
Preparation depends on the type of sedation. For IV sedation and general anesthesia, you must fast for at least 6–8 hours before your appointment (no food or drink, including water). You will also need a companion to drive you home and stay with you for several hours afterward. Dr. Ali will provide detailed pre-appointment instructions specific to your sedation plan.
How long will I be at the office for a sedation appointment?
Plan to be at our office for 2–4 hours for most sedation appointments, depending on the complexity of treatment. This includes pre-procedure preparation, the procedure itself, and recovery time in our office before you are cleared to leave.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, a list of all current medications (including supplements and over-the-counter medications), and any relevant medical records or X-rays from previous providers.
Does NOVA Dental Anesthesia accept my insurance?
We work with many dental insurance plans. Please contact our office at (703) 672-8111 to verify your specific coverage before your appointment. We also offer flexible payment options for patients without insurance or for services not covered by insurance.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
We understand that schedules change. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. We ask for at least 48 hours' notice for sedation appointments, as these require significant preparation and scheduling coordination.
How do I know if I need a referral to see Dr. Ali?
In most cases, you do not need a referral to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ali. However, some insurance plans may require a referral for certain services. Please check with your insurance provider or call our office for guidance.
